A First Look At Wayve

Today, every video app works the same way: millions of videos exist, and an algorithm decides which ones to show you. Wayve is different. Instead of recommending existing content, we generate videos that didn't exist until our AI made them specifically for you. Today, we're launching on iOS via TestFlight.

This is the first consumer product from Darwin. While Darwin Ads and Darwin Studio focus on the creator economy, Wayve explores what becomes possible when AI generates entertainment directly for viewers. Our focus remains on building the best adaptive media technology and crafting the product experiences it enables.

What is Personalized Video?

Video platforms today personalize recommendations. They analyze viewing history and surface content from a catalog of millions of existing videos. The videos themselves remain static, identical for every viewer who watches them. A cooking tutorial shows the same ingredients whether you are vegan or eat meat. A travel vlog references the same destinations whether you live in Tokyo or Toronto.

Personalized Video changes the content itself. Darwin generates videos where the subject matter, examples, references, and framing all adapt based on who is watching. A video about building better habits might reference your morning running routine. A motivational piece might feature imagery from a show you have been watching. The content matches your context because it was made with your context in mind.

This requires a fundamentally different architecture. Traditional video platforms index and retrieve. Darwin understands and generates. The shift enables content experiences that were previously impossible: videos that acknowledge what is happening in your life, reference your actual interests, and arrive at moments when they are most relevant.

Why Should I Care?

Content today competes for your attention but rarely earns it. You scroll through videos made for everyone, hoping something clicks. Personalized Video inverts this dynamic. Every video you watch was made with you in mind, which means your time spent watching actually matters. The content improves because you watched it. Your experience shapes what gets created next.

This changes what video can be. Instead of passive consumption of generic content, you get media that responds to your life, adapts to your context, and evolves alongside you. The bar for relevance goes up. The noise goes down. And the relationship between you and the content you watch becomes something closer to a conversation than a broadcast.

Example Wayve Formats

Wayve generates many categories of content, each serving a different purpose. Here are a few examples of what you might find in your daily batches.

1. Inspirational Wayves

Everyone already knows the feeling of a great inspiration video. On Wayve, that inspiration is shaped around what you're actually doing.

Don't Lose Your Passion

Inspirational Wayves tie motivation directly to your real pursuits. Training for a marathon? The video focuses on how elite runners think during the hardest miles. Learning an instrument? It highlights how musicians build mastery through deliberate practice.

2. Personalized Message Wayves

Wayve also creates personalized messages (in video form) by learning about you and proactively sharing what you might need to hear in the moment.

Get Out Of Your Routine

Personalized Message Wayves reflect where you are and what's happening now. Living in San Francisco and stuck in a routine? The video suggests specific neighborhoods or experiences worth exploring this weekend, based on your interests. Just moved to a new city? It helps you discover local spots that match your personality.

3. Educational Wayves

Learning sticks best when it connects to what you already know. Wayve teaches through the lens of your goals, habits, and context.

Why Sleep Quality Matters For You

Educational Wayves explain ideas using what Darwin already understands about you. A video on sleep quality might break down the science through its impact on your running performance and training schedule. A video on productivity frames techniques around your profession and the tools you actually use.

How The Wayve App Works

Four core mechanics power the Wayve experience. Each contributes to content that feels personally relevant without requiring any manual input from viewers.

1. Wayves Come In Batches

Wayve delivering content in curated batches

Wayve delivers content in batches rather than infinite feeds. Each day, Darwin generates a fresh set of videos based on what it believes will be valuable to you right now. You open the app to find content waiting, watch what interests you, and come back tomorrow for more. No endless scrolling, no algorithmic rabbit holes, no guilt about time spent.

This model changes the relationship between viewer and platform. You consume content on your terms, in finite quantities, at times that work for your schedule. The constraint forces Darwin to prioritize quality over quantity, generating only videos worth your limited attention.

2. Darwin Creates For You Every Day

Darwin learning viewer preferences passively over time

Darwin learns about you without questionnaires or preference settings. It observes what you watch, what you skip, what you rewatch, and how you engage. From these signals, it builds an understanding of your interests, goals, aesthetic preferences, and the contexts that make content resonate.

This passive approach means personalization improves automatically. You do not need to tell Darwin you started training for a race or moved to a new city. It picks up on these shifts through your engagement patterns and adjusts content accordingly. The system adapts to your life without requiring you to manage it.

3. Fully Proactive, No Viewer Input Required

Darwin proactively generating content before viewers request it

Darwin generates content before you ask for it. You never search, browse, or request specific topics. Videos appear based on what Darwin anticipates you will find valuable at this moment in your life. The AI operates upstream of demand, creating content in anticipation of needs rather than in response to explicit queries.

Proactive generation requires Darwin to understand not just what you like, but what you need. A viewer dealing with a stressful week might receive content about mental frameworks for handling pressure, even if they never searched for anything related to stress. The system aims to be useful in ways viewers might not have thought to ask for.

4. The More You Use Darwin, The Better It Gets

Wayve content quality improving over time through viewer feedback

Every interaction teaches Darwin something. Videos you watch to completion signal interest. Videos you skip suggest misalignment. Videos you rewatch indicate high value. This feedback loop runs continuously, refining the model that generates your content. Week two feels different from week one. Month two feels different from month one.

The refinement happens at multiple levels. Darwin improves its understanding of your interests, its sense of your aesthetic preferences, its timing of what topics matter when, and its calibration of content length and format. Each dimension sharpens independently, compounding into increasingly relevant output.

Getting Access

Wayve is available now on iOS through TestFlight. We are keeping the initial group small to maintain generation quality and iterate based on direct feedback. Here is how to join:

First, join our Discord community through the link at wayve.so. Introduce yourself and share what interests you about personalized video. Then, post a message in #invite-requests asking for access. A moderator will review your request and send you an invite code, typically within a few hours. Finally, you will receive an email with a TestFlight link. Download the app, enter your invite code during onboarding, and you are in.

Android is in active development. Sign up at wayve.so to get notified the moment it launches.

What Comes Next

This is version 1.0 of Wayve. Over the coming weeks, we will expand the library of video formats, deepen the personalization engine, and scale access to more users. Expect product updates every two weeks as we ship improvements.

For feedback, feature requests, or just to share what you are experiencing with the app, find us in Discord. We read everything and the input directly shapes what we build next.
